Read Once, Delete Forever: Why We Built ReaDelete
ReaDelete (readelete.com) was built to solve a pervasive everyday security failure: billions of passwords, API keys, PIN codes, and personal identity documents are transmitted over channels that store them forever.
1. Our Core Engineering Philosophy
Most digital privacy tools fail because they are either too complicated for everyday users (requiring PGP key exchanges, command-line tools, or paid enterprise seats) or they require trusting a third-party server with plaintext secrets. ReaDelete bridges that gap by combining industrial-grade client-side cryptography with an effortless, zero-account web interface that anyone can use in ten seconds.
Our architecture is governed by three non-negotiable engineering laws:
- Zero-Knowledge by Mathematical Design: We never want to be able to read your secrets. Every message and watermarked document is encrypted inside your browser using 256-bit AES-GCM before transmission, and the decryption key remains strictly inside the URL
#fragment. - Zero Persistent Disk Storage: Encrypted payloads are held exclusively in volatile server RAM and are atomically purged the millisecond they are read—or when their expiration timer elapses.
- Defense-in-Depth for Real-World Workflows: We built practical protection features that legacy pastebins lack: client-side ID card redaction and diagonal watermarking, anti-shoulder-surf blur shields, live sender read-receipt radar, and one-click sender kill switches.
2. Who Uses ReaDelete?
ReaDelete serves hundreds of thousands of encrypted transmissions across seven languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and Dutch) for:
- Software Engineers & DevSecOps Teams: Sharing
.envconfiguration variables, database passwords, webhook secrets, and SSH keys without polluting Slack or Git history. - Accountants, Legal & HR Professionals: Requesting client tax logins and GDPR-compliant, watermarked identity documents via our Request a Secret intake mode.
- Real Estate Brokers & Landlords: Verifying tenant identity cards with redacted national ID numbers and dated anti-fraud watermarks.
- Privacy-Conscious Individuals: Sending home Wi-Fi passwords, streaming logins, or banking PINs to family members without leaving them in cloud chat backups.
3. Editorial Policy & Technical Accuracy Standards
All articles published in the ReaDelete Security & Privacy Knowledge Base are authored and reviewed by our security engineering team. We adhere to strict editorial standards:
- Primary Standards Citations: All cryptographic claims reference official W3C Web Crypto API specifications, NIST Special Publications (SP 800-38D for AES-GCM), and IETF RFCs (RFC 3986 for URI Fragment handling).
- Statutory Privacy Alignment: Our data protection guides reference primary legal texts, including GDPR (Regulation EU 2016/679) Articles 5, 17, 25, and 32.
- Free Public Utility Commitment: To keep ReaDelete 100% free and accessible without requiring user accounts or subscriptions, our public informational pages are supported by non-intrusive advertising via Google AdSense. Active secret decryption routes (
/n/*) strictly enforcenoindex, nofollowprotections and never share URL fragments with third parties.
